Sprues and Molds with Jena Hounshell

  • Sharon Z Jewelry 833 Market Street San Francisco United States (map)

Join master caster and mold maker Jena Hounshell for a weekend course about the mold-making and spruing process to turn yourself into a Spruru™ (Sprue Guru)! Learn to design your jewelry pieces with molds and sprues in mind. Where to place your sprue can impact how well your casting turns out, and incorporating a sprue into your wax carving can make a huge difference in the ease of your work. Get actionable instruction that you can incorporate into your designs!

Students are encouraged to bring 1-2 pieces that they will want to mold for reproduction. The class includes one finished mold that they will get to take home. Some additional tools will be available for purchase. Each class is 3.5 hours and will be 10am - 1:30pm each day.

This class is geared towards students with basic wax carving and jewelry-making skills. Prerequisite is prior wax carving experience, or our intro to Wax Carving Workshop. Wondering if you have the requisite wax skills? Contact Sharon to find out if this is the right class for you.
