Live Online Class FAQ

Are Your Classes accessible for people who are hard of hearing?

Short answer - Yes!

Longer answer - I use the automated captions offered in Google Meet. They aren’t perfect, but Google Meet is so far the only live online platform that provides automatic closed captions.

Automatic closed captioning is easy to use with Google Meet - after you log in, just hit the "cc" button in the lower part of your screen.

All class recordings will have closed captions - see an issue with any of the captions? I would love to know. Contact me to let me know about any issues you find with closed captions.

Do I need to download an app to access your classes online?

Short answer - no and yes.

Long answer - You can access Google Meet easily from a browser on your laptop or desktop. If you are viewing from your phone or tablet, you may need to download the app. I recommend the larger screen to watch it if you can as it will be easier to see details.

Will a recording be made available later?

A recording of your class will be made available about 48 hours after your class but may not have captions for a few days. I work with an external service to provide captions and occasionally they take an extra day to produce. You will also receive a written guide about 48 hours after your class.

What are some of the basic tools that I might need to have in advance?

Some online classes assume that you already have either a Dremel or a Flex Shaft. If you are considering doing more jewelry-making, this is an essential tool and a worthwhile investment. Each class will come with a list of tools that you can purchase before your class. Since many students may already have their own tools on hand, some tool purchases may be optional.

Some online classes will require a torch. You can see my preferred torch set up here, but some soldering classes can also be done with a butane torch.

Do I need to order tools in advance?

Short Answer - Yes and no.

Longer answer - A tool and supply list will be made available to you after you enroll in the course. For online classes, you will need to order or acquire your own tools. In some cases, you may already have the necessary tools on hand. For anyone who doesn’t, I recommend getting the tools so that you can practice along during the class. For some classes, a coupon code for tools will be provided after you enroll in the live class. You’ll get the most out of your class if you have the necessary tools on hand in time for your class.

How long are your classes?

My Live classes are approximately 2.5 hours, but I allow up to half an hour at the end of the class for questions and clarifications. Questions are encouraged throughout the class, of course, but there might be some lingering questions at the end. Some classes may be longer, or take place over multiple weeks depending on the subject.
